Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Life Box. Please read these terms carefully before using the Service.
Effective Date: August 13, 2026
Last Updated: August 13, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Life Box website, applications, software, features and services available through lifebox.ca and related properties (collectively, the "Service").
Life Box is operated by [LEGAL COMPANY NAME], a Canadian company ("Life Box," "we," "us," or "our").
By creating an account, purchasing a subscription, accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
Our Privacy Policy also governs how we collect, use, process and protect personal information and forms part of your relationship with Life Box.
1. What Life Box Does
Life Box is a digital organization and storage service designed to help individuals collect, organize, understand and securely maintain important information about their lives.
The Service may allow you to:
- upload and store important documents and files;
- organize legal, financial, insurance, property, family and personal information;
- store instructions, notes, messages, photographs, videos and other content;
- identify trusted contacts and other authorized individuals;
- organize information relating to executors, attorneys, beneficiaries or advisors;
- search information stored in your Life Box;
- use AI-assisted document analysis and organization tools;
- receive suggestions about information you may wish to add;
- view a readiness or completeness assessment;
- prepare information that may be made available following death, incapacity or another supported event;
- access other features made available by Life Box.
Life Box provides tools for organization, storage, access and preparation.
Life Box does not replace professional legal, estate, financial, tax, insurance, healthcare or other professional advice.
2. Life Box Is Not a Will or Legal Instrument
Life Box is not a law firm and does not provide legal services.
Unless a particular feature expressly states otherwise, information entered into Life Box does not itself create, replace, amend or revoke:
- a will;
- codicil;
- trust;
- power of attorney;
- representation agreement;
- healthcare directive;
- beneficiary designation;
- guardianship document;
- executor appointment;
- property transfer;
- contract;
- legally binding estate-planning instrument.
Identifying someone inside Life Box as an executor, attorney, beneficiary, trusted contact, guardian or other representative does not legally appoint that individual to that role.
Legal authority is determined by applicable law and valid legal documents.
You should obtain appropriate professional advice where necessary.
3. Do Not Rely on Life Box as the Only Copy of an Original Document
Life Box is intended to help you organize and preserve important information.
However, certain documents may require an original physical copy, particular signatures, witnesses, notarization, registration or other formalities to have legal effect.
Uploading a copy to Life Box does not change those requirements.
You are responsible for determining whether original documents must be retained separately.
You should not destroy original wills, powers of attorney, certificates, deeds, identification documents or other important originals merely because a digital copy has been uploaded to Life Box.
4. Eligibility
You must be legally capable of entering into an agreement to use Life Box.
The Service is primarily intended for adults.
If you are using Life Box on behalf of another individual or organization, you represent that you have the authority necessary to do so.
You may not create an account for another person, access another person's Life Box or provide instructions on their behalf unless you are legally authorized to do so.
5. Your Account
You are responsible for maintaining accurate account information and protecting access to your Life Box.
You are responsible for:
- maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials;
- using a strong and unique password;
- maintaining access to your registered email address;
- using any additional security features we provide;
- keeping trusted-contact information current;
- notifying us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
You may not share your primary account credentials with another person as a substitute for creating appropriate authorized access.
You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless that activity results from circumstances for which you are not legally responsible.
6. Your Life Box Content
Information that you upload, enter, record or otherwise provide through the Service is referred to as "Life Box Content."
Life Box Content may include documents, information, notes, photographs, video, audio, account information, instructions and other materials.
You retain ownership of your Life Box Content.
These Terms do not transfer ownership of your private documents or information to Life Box.
You give Life Box a limited right to host, store, reproduce, process, analyze, transmit, convert and otherwise handle Life Box Content only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, improve and provide the Service you request.
This permission ends when the relevant content is permanently deleted from our systems, except where limited retention is reasonably required for backups, security, compliance or applicable law.
We do not obtain the right to sell your private Life Box Content merely because you upload it to the Service.
7. Information About Other People
Your Life Box may contain information about other individuals.
For example, you may provide information concerning:
- spouses or partners;
- children;
- dependants;
- family members;
- beneficiaries;
- executors;
- attorneys;
- trustees;
- guardians;
- lawyers;
- financial advisors;
- accountants;
- insurance professionals;
- healthcare contacts;
- business partners;
- emergency contacts.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have a lawful basis for providing information about other individuals where one is required.
Do not use Life Box to improperly collect, monitor, expose or distribute information about another person.
8. Sensitive Information
Life Box may allow you to store highly sensitive information.
Depending on your use of the Service, this could include financial records, account information, identification documents, legal records, insurance records, family information, medical-related information or login credentials.
You decide what information you place in your Life Box.
Although Life Box uses security measures appropriate to the nature of the Service, no online service can guarantee absolute security.
You should carefully consider what information you store and maintain appropriate independent records or backups where necessary.
9. AI-Assisted Features
Life Box may use artificial intelligence, machine learning, document-processing systems and other automated technologies.
These features may help:
- classify documents;
- extract information;
- identify people, organizations, dates or relationships;
- create summaries;
- organize information;
- connect related items;
- power search;
- answer questions about your Life Box;
- identify potentially missing information;
- make suggestions;
- calculate readiness indicators;
- populate or update relevant areas of your account.
AI-generated information may contain errors, omissions or incorrect interpretations.
You should verify important information against the original source material.
10. AI Is Not Professional Advice
AI-generated summaries, recommendations, classifications, search results, readiness scores and other automated outputs are provided for informational and organizational purposes.
They are not legal, financial, medical, tax, insurance, investment or estate-planning advice.
You should not make consequential decisions solely because Life Box or an automated system recommends an action, identifies something as complete or generates a particular interpretation.
For important matters, consult an appropriate qualified professional.
11. Readiness Scores
Life Box may provide a readiness, completeness or preparedness score.
The score is intended to help you understand how much information you have added compared with items Life Box generally recommends.
A readiness score is an estimate.
A score of 100%, or any other score, does not mean that:
- your estate plan is legally complete;
- your will is valid;
- your insurance coverage is sufficient;
- your family has everything it will need;
- your financial affairs are complete;
- every relevant document has been uploaded;
- all information is accurate or current;
- professional advice is unnecessary.
Your circumstances are unique and may require information beyond what Life Box recommends.
12. Trusted Contacts
Life Box may allow you to identify trusted contacts or people who may eventually receive access to certain information.
Adding someone as a trusted contact does not necessarily give that person immediate access to your Life Box.
Trusted contacts may be subject to:
- identity verification;
- account permissions;
- release rules;
- legal verification;
- event verification;
- additional security procedures.
You are responsible for keeping trusted-contact information accurate and current.
Life Box is not responsible for an inability to contact someone because the information you provided is incorrect, outdated or incomplete.
13. Death, Incapacity and Authorized Access
Life Box may provide features intended to make information available following your death, incapacity or another supported event.
Before providing access, we may require evidence reasonably sufficient to establish:
- the identity of the requesting person;
- the occurrence of the applicable event; and
- the person's authority or eligibility to receive the requested information.
Evidence may include identification, death certificates, probate documents, wills, powers of attorney, court documents, lawyer verification or other appropriate documentation.
Life Box may place an account or release request on hold while verification is taking place.
14. Conflicting Claims
There may be circumstances where two or more people make conflicting claims concerning access to a Life Box.
For example, an executor identified in an older will may differ from an individual identified in a newer document or inside the Service.
In those circumstances, Life Box may:
- suspend access;
- restrict disclosure;
- request additional documentation;
- require legal confirmation;
- communicate with relevant representatives;
- defer action until the dispute is resolved;
- comply with a court order or other legally binding direction.
Life Box is not required to adjudicate private estate, family, ownership or authority disputes.
We may require disputing parties to resolve a disagreement independently before releasing information.
15. Your Instructions and Legal Authority
We will make reasonable efforts to respect the permissions and instructions configured in your account.
However, those instructions remain subject to applicable law and verified legal authority.
If an instruction within Life Box conflicts with:
- a valid court order;
- applicable legislation;
- legally established authority;
- our legal obligations;
- a valid and controlling legal instrument;
we may be required to follow the legally controlling requirement.
Life Box does not guarantee that every instruction stored in your account will ultimately be legally enforceable.
16. Subscriptions
Certain Life Box features require a paid subscription.
Subscription pricing, billing frequency and included features are shown before purchase.
Unless otherwise stated at checkout, paid subscriptions may automatically renew until cancelled.
By purchasing a recurring subscription, you authorize the applicable payment provider to charge the applicable subscription amount and required taxes at each renewal.
You may cancel your subscription through the cancellation methods made available by Life Box or our payment provider.
Cancellation generally prevents future renewal and does not immediately delete your Life Box.
Your access following cancellation will depend on the account status and product rules presented to you.
17. Paddle and Payment Processing
Life Box may use Paddle or another payment provider to process subscriptions.
Where Paddle processes a purchase as Merchant of Record, the payment transaction may also be governed by Paddle's applicable Buyer Terms and Refund Policy.
Life Box does not generally receive or store your complete payment card number when payment details are entered directly through the payment provider.
Payment providers may independently apply requirements relating to:
- payment authorization;
- fraud prevention;
- taxes;
- billing;
- refunds;
- chargebacks;
- subscription management.
If the payment provider cannot successfully process a renewal payment, your paid access may be suspended, restricted or cancelled.
18. Refunds
Refund eligibility is subject to:
- the refund terms presented at purchase;
- the policies of the applicable payment provider;
- any promotional terms;
- applicable consumer-protection law.
Nothing in these Terms limits refund, cancellation, withdrawal or other rights that cannot legally be waived.
Where Paddle is the applicable seller for a transaction, refund requests may be processed through Paddle.
19. Price Changes
We may change subscription pricing in the future.
Any new pricing will apply prospectively.
For existing subscriptions, we will provide notice of price increases where required and will follow applicable law and payment-provider requirements.
If you do not wish to continue at a new price, you may cancel before the new price becomes applicable to your next billing period.
20. Failed or Expired Subscriptions
If a subscription expires, is cancelled or cannot be renewed because payment fails, we may limit access to paid functionality.
We do not intend for an expired payment method to result in immediate permanent destruction of important Life Box Content.
We may provide a reasonable account state, notice period, retrieval period or other mechanism before permanently deleting information associated with an inactive account.
The exact retention period may be described elsewhere in the Service and may change as our product develops.
Information may nevertheless be deleted where required by law, requested by the authorized account holder, required for security reasons or permitted under these Terms.
21. Account Cancellation and Deletion
You may cancel your subscription without necessarily deleting your account.
Account deletion is a separate action.
Because a Life Box may contain important information intended for future access, we may require additional identity verification before permanently deleting an account.
Deleting your account may permanently delete:
- uploaded files;
- documents;
- stored instructions;
- trusted contacts;
- messages;
- videos;
- photographs;
- account information;
- other Life Box Content.
Once permanently deleted, information may not be recoverable.
Limited copies may temporarily remain in backups, logs or disaster-recovery systems until they are overwritten or deleted according to our normal retention processes.
22. Acceptable Use
You may use Life Box only for lawful purposes.
You may not use the Service to:
- violate applicable law;
- access another person's account without authorization;
- impersonate another person;
- upload content you do not have the right to possess or process;
- facilitate fraud, theft or identity theft;
- distribute malware or malicious software;
- attempt to bypass security controls;
- probe or attack our systems without authorization;
- overload, disrupt or interfere with the Service;
- scrape or systematically extract information from the Service;
- reverse engineer the Service except where such restriction is prohibited by law;
- use Life Box to harass, threaten or unlawfully monitor another person;
- upload illegal material;
- facilitate unauthorized access to third-party systems;
- misrepresent legal authority to access another person's Life Box.
We may investigate suspected violations and restrict or suspend access where reasonably necessary to protect users, Life Box or others.
23. Passwords and Account Credentials Stored in Life Box
Life Box may allow users to store information relating to online accounts, passwords or access instructions.
You are responsible for ensuring that storing and later disclosing those credentials is lawful and consistent with the applicable third-party service's terms.
Certain online accounts, licences or digital assets may not legally be transferable following death.
Life Box does not determine whether a particular account or credential may legally be accessed by another person.
24. Intellectual Property
Life Box and its software, design, branding, interfaces, technology, documentation, algorithms and other proprietary materials are owned by or licensed to Life Box.
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use the Service for its intended purpose.
This does not give you ownership of Life Box's software or intellectual property.
"Life Box," our logos, branding and related marks may not be used without permission.
25. Feedback
If you voluntarily send us suggestions, ideas or product feedback, you allow us to use that feedback to improve Life Box without owing compensation to you.
This does not give us ownership of your private Life Box Content.
26. Third-Party Services
Life Box depends on third-party technology and service providers.
These may include providers of:
- hosting;
- cloud storage;
- authentication;
- artificial intelligence;
- document processing;
- email;
- payments;
- analytics;
- monitoring;
- security;
- communications.
We select and manage providers with the intention of operating a reliable and secure service, but we do not control every aspect of third-party systems.
Availability or performance may occasionally be affected by services outside our direct control.
27. Service Availability
Life Box is designed to be a long-term information service, but no technology service can guarantee continuous or uninterrupted availability.
We may occasionally:
- perform maintenance;
- update software;
- change infrastructure;
- modify features;
- address security incidents;
- experience third-party outages;
- temporarily restrict access.
We will make reasonable efforts to maintain a dependable Service appropriate to its purpose.
You should maintain independent copies of information for which a separate backup or original is important.
28. Changes to the Service
Life Box will evolve.
We may add, change, replace or discontinue features.
Where a change materially affects a paid feature or significantly impacts your ability to access important information, we will seek to provide reasonable notice where practical.
We will not intentionally use minor product changes as a means of depriving users of access to their stored information.
29. Security
We take reasonable technical, organizational and administrative measures to protect the Service and Life Box Content.
However, no system can guarantee absolute security.
You acknowledge that risks associated with online services can include:
- unauthorized access;
- credential compromise;
- software vulnerabilities;
- infrastructure failures;
- third-party incidents;
- transmission failures;
- human error.
We will handle security incidents in accordance with applicable law and our privacy and security procedures.
30. No Guarantee of Legal, Financial or Estate Outcomes
Life Box helps organize information.
We do not guarantee that use of Life Box will:
- prevent estate disputes;
- avoid probate;
- reduce taxes;
- validate a will;
- satisfy legal requirements;
- ensure insurance coverage;
- ensure beneficiaries receive assets;
- ensure every account can be accessed;
- prevent family disputes;
- prevent loss caused by outdated information;
- create an effective estate plan.
Life Box should be one part of responsible personal organization and preparation, not the sole mechanism upon which consequential legal arrangements depend.
31. Your Responsibility for Accuracy
You are responsible for reviewing the accuracy and currency of information stored in your Life Box.
Documents and circumstances change.
People move, relationships change, policies expire, accounts close, assets change and estate documents may be replaced.
Life Box may provide reminders or suggestions, but we do not guarantee that we will identify outdated information.
You should periodically review your Life Box and your original legal and financial documents.
32. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided on an "as available" basis.
Life Box does not guarantee that:
- every feature will always be available;
- every AI result will be accurate;
- every document will be correctly classified;
- every relevant item will be identified;
- every trusted contact will be reachable;
- every access request will be resolved immediately;
- use of the Service will produce a particular legal, financial or personal outcome.
We do not exclude warranties, guarantees or rights that cannot legally be excluded.
33. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Life Box and its directors, officers, employees, contractors and affiliates will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages arising from use of the Service.
This may include loss resulting from:
- decisions made based on AI-generated information;
- outdated information supplied by a user;
- incorrect trusted-contact information;
- third-party service interruptions;
- unauthorized use caused by compromised user credentials;
- disputes between executors, family members or other claimants;
- reliance on a digital copy where an original document is legally required.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Life Box's aggregate liability arising from the Service will not exceed the greater of:
(a) the amount you paid for the Service during the 12 months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim; or
(b) CAD $100.
These limitations do not apply where liability cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability to the extent doing so is prohibited by applicable law.
34. Consumer Rights
You may have rights under federal, provincial or territorial consumer-protection legislation.
Those rights may differ depending on where you live.
Nothing in these Terms waives, restricts or overrides rights that applicable law does not permit you to waive.
If a provision of these Terms conflicts with a mandatory consumer-protection requirement, the mandatory requirement will apply to the extent of that conflict.
35. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to be responsible for losses, claims or reasonable costs arising from your intentional unlawful misuse of the Service, including:
- knowingly accessing an account without authority;
- knowingly providing fraudulent authority documents;
- using Life Box to violate another person's rights;
- intentionally introducing malicious software;
- materially violating these Terms in a manner that causes harm to Life Box or another person.
This section is not intended to make you responsible for losses caused by Life Box's own conduct where applicable law places responsibility on us.
36. Suspension
We may temporarily restrict or suspend an account where we reasonably believe doing so is necessary because of:
- a security threat;
- suspected unauthorized access;
- fraud;
- misuse;
- a material violation of these Terms;
- a legal requirement;
- a dispute over authority following death or incapacity;
- risk of harm to an account holder or another person.
Because Life Box may contain important information, we will consider the nature of the Service when determining an appropriate response and will avoid permanent loss of legitimate user information where reasonably possible.
37. Termination by Life Box
We may terminate an account for serious or repeated violations of these Terms, unlawful activity, fraud or circumstances where continuing to provide the Service would create an unreasonable legal or security risk.
Where reasonably possible and legally permitted, we will provide notice and an opportunity to retrieve eligible Life Box Content before permanent deletion.
Immediate action may be necessary in cases involving fraud, security incidents, unlawful activity or legal requirements.
38. What Happens if Life Box Ever Discontinues the Service
Life Box is intended to provide long-term value.
If we ever decide to permanently discontinue the Service, we will make reasonable efforts, where legally and technically possible, to provide users with advance notice and an opportunity to retrieve or export their Life Box Content.
Nothing in this provision guarantees that Life Box will operate indefinitely.
39. Privacy
Our collection, use, processing and disclosure of personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy.
The Privacy Policy explains matters including:
- information we collect;
- document analysis;
- AI processing;
- service providers;
- authorized access;
- data retention;
- account deletion;
- privacy rights;
- security;
- international processing.
By using Life Box, you acknowledge our Privacy Policy.
40. Electronic Communications
You agree that we may communicate with you electronically concerning your account and the Service.
Communications may include:
- account verification;
- payment notices;
- security alerts;
- access requests;
- trusted-contact notifications;
- subscription notices;
- legal notices;
- privacy notices;
- changes to these Terms;
- important service information.
You are responsible for keeping your email address current.
Where required by law, we will obtain appropriate consent before sending promotional electronic communications.
41. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as Life Box evolves.
If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice through the Service, email or another appropriate method.
The updated Terms will identify their effective date.
Where applicable law requires additional consent to a material change, we will seek that consent.
If you do not agree to updated Terms, you may stop using the Service and cancel your subscription before the updated Terms become effective, subject to any rights available under applicable law.
42. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [PROVINCE OR TERRITORY] and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
However, mandatory consumer-protection rights or other statutory rights applicable in your place of residence continue to apply where they cannot legally be excluded.
43. Resolving Disputes
We encourage users to contact Life Box first if a dispute arises.
Many issues involving accounts, billing, access or stored information can be resolved directly.
Before commencing formal proceedings, you and Life Box agree, where reasonable, to attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute informally.
Nothing in this section prevents either party from:
- seeking urgent injunctive relief;
- exercising non-waivable consumer rights;
- contacting a regulator;
- making a privacy complaint;
- pursuing another remedy that applicable law does not permit these Terms to restrict.
44. No Mandatory Arbitration
Unless you separately agree otherwise after a dispute arises, these Terms do not require you to resolve disputes through mandatory private arbitration.
45. Severability
If any part of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent legally permitted.
The invalid provision will be interpreted or modified only to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable where permitted.
46. No Waiver
If Life Box does not immediately enforce a provision of these Terms, that does not mean we permanently waive the right to enforce it later.
47. Assignment
You may not transfer your Life Box account or your rights under these Terms to another person without our permission, except where rights transfer by operation of applicable law.
Life Box may assign these Terms as part of a merger, acquisition, corporate restructuring, financing, sale of assets or similar business transaction, subject to applicable law and our obligations concerning your personal information.
48. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, applicable subscription terms and any additional terms expressly presented for a specific feature, form the agreement between you and Life Box concerning the Service.
If feature-specific terms conflict with these general Terms, the feature-specific terms will govern for that feature to the extent of the conflict.

50. A Final Note About Life Box
Life Box is designed around a serious responsibility: helping you make important information easier for the right people to find when it matters.
The Service can help you prepare, organize and communicate.
It cannot make decisions for you, replace professional advice or guarantee that every circumstance in the future will unfold as expected.
The most effective Life Box is one that is accurate, kept current, supported by appropriate original documents and used alongside qualified professional advice where that advice is needed.
